Mr Larry Thian has extensive experience spanning over 35 years in all areas of insurance with specialty in marine cargo and logistics. He is a senior associate of the Australia & New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF Snr Assc) a faculty member of Singapore Insurance Institute, and a certified Insurance Practitioner.
He joined Phoenix Assurance Co Ltd (UK) as a marine claims and casualty specialist before moving on to Sun Alliance Co Ltd (UK) as a liability and marine casualty manager. After this, he spent over 10 years as an associate director of Marsh & McLaren (USA) the world’s largest insurance broker and has specialist knowledge of general cargo insurance, project cargo, claims, freight and demurrage matters.He is currently a lecturer with Singapore Logistic Association providing training in legal issues and insurance leading to SLA’s freight management and logistics management diplomas. He has also assisted in designing insurance training courses for School of Business and Accountancy in Ngee Ann Polytechnic and the Singapore Insurance College.
He has conducted seminars and workshops in Hongkong, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Singapore on areas like Contracts, Shipping, Supply Chain Management, Banking/Finance, and International Trade Facilitation. In-house seminar clients include AT&T, Texas Instrument, Hewlett Packard, Honeywell, Rockwell and Seagate.
He has led at seminars on “Marine Insurance”, “Handling Cargo Claims”, “Loss Prevention Practices”‘”Letters of Credit”, “Trade Finance & Financing Techniques”, “International Trade Facilitation”, “Incoterms”, “International Trade & Transport Documents” and a host of other finance and shipping subjects.
