Overview
In today’s busy world of shipping, containers have evolved to become as the main means of transporting goods from one place to another by sea.
Gone are the days when cargo was only shipped on conventional ships with inboard cranes or booms for loading and unloading. Project cargo, on the other hand, is experiencing a revival with heavy demands for specially-built ships designed to transport very heavy cargo.
Much emphasis has been placed on containers, third party logistics, supply chain management and warehousing in the learning arena on shipping domain. Few people in the logistics business have a basic, if not, profound understanding of project cargo. With Singapore as a logistics hub where shipping in-and-out of the city port is often via carrying cargo by barges and landing craft into neighouring countries, it is thus ever-growing in importance for the industry that more talents are groomed to handle this kind of shipments.
The purpose of this course is to teach a basic understanding of project shipping – how project shipping works, trade routes, ports, cargo configuration, restrictions and possibilities, to enable forwarders to make qualified decisions.
